Ни для кого не секрет, что прием "вспышка в лоб" один из самых примитивных способов подсветить объект съемки, при этом мы сталкиваемся с рядом проблем, такими как "плоская" свето-теневая картинка, блики на лице портретируемого (из-за чего лицо становится похожим на самовар), резкие тени под подбородком, нижним веком, за спиной портретируемого, впечатление "фонарика в пещере" в передаче пространства помещения.
Все эти факторы фотографию, сделанную с помощью зеркалки приближают вплотную к обычной карманной "мыльнице".

The main source of light was set up to camera-left. We can make a pretty good guess at how high the light must have been, by looking at how the shadows are placed. The first place I would look as at our model’s face, and see how the shadow of her nose falls on her face. And from that we have a fairly good idea of the placement of the light.

It is difficult to determine when the accessory shoe first appeared on Nikon SLR cameras. The very early ones might be a simple “cold shoe”, which could hold a flash but the triggering signal was sent via additional cable between flash and camera. You could fine one like that on a Nikkorex F (1962). Later, the electrical connections were made within the shoe. That’s when it became “hot” and was called “hot shoe”.

The important thing to notice here is that everyone there is evenly lit, whether closer to the camera, or further away. This is achieved by NOT bouncing the flash off the ceiling towards my subject … but rather to flag my flash so that there is no direct flash falling on my subject. And then I bounce my flash off some point equi-distant to everyone. Then the light has the same distance to travel to everyone … and everyone will be evenly illuminated by the flash. NO need for the local correction brush in ACR / Lightroom. It’s all done in camera!

The reason for this is simple, fluorescent lights flicker. Too fast for your eyes to see, but depending on your shutter speed, your camera may be able to pick up the fluctuations. If the light uses a magnetic ballast, it will flicker 'off' 100-120 times a second (2 times for every cycle of the 50-60Hz line power). At high enough shutter speeds, one frame might be taken while the light output is at its peak, and another frame taken while the light is at its lowest resulting in significant exposure differences. At slower shutter speeds, the fluctuations end up being integrated together so you won't notice a difference between frames.

Его использование часто не ускоряет процесс, а замедляет его – особенно при смене изделий или ракурса. Лайт-куб создает скорее не рабочую среду, а жесткие рамки, снижающие планку качества съемки. Лайт-куб – дешевое решение на один день, и если вы будете развиваться как профессионал, то очень быстро поймете, что пришло время организовать более полноценное рабочее место для качественной, творческой съемки.

Use a snoot - In these shots I used a snooted strobe to create highlights without casting light on the background. A snoot is any conical shaped tunnel to confine the light beam for a narrow point of focus. It doesn’t have to be fancy. I use the velcro pocket separators from my camera bag. I know photographers who use cardboard cereal boxes to make DIY snoots.

As most of you already know, the problem with the bounce flash technique, is that you will pick up the colour cast of the area that you are bouncing your flash off. When this colour cast is slightly warm, it is often simple enough just to switch to a Daylight White Balance. This slightly cold colour will off-set the additional warmth from the off-white surface you bounced your flash off.
