Keep to TTL mode if the flash is a dominant light source. Change to TTL BL when the flash needs to act as fill-flash or when the flash is in relation to the ambient light.

Нефото фотографу (открытая статья по обмену опытом). Замечательная статья от коллег с сайта «Простые фокусы». От себя добавлю, что всегда вожу с собой обычный зонтик (не считая фотозонта), правда использую его чаще не по прямому назначению, а как аксессуар.

Скотч узкий и широкий. Две совершенно разные по предназначению вещи, значение которых сложно переоценить. Широкий позволяет зафиксировать абсолютно все, что приходит в голову: прицепить отражатель к дереву (в лесу редко есть стойки, забытые дома), вспышку к другому дереву, трубы к стойкам (для экономных, кто жмотнулся на фиксатор) и даже светофильтры на объектив или вспышку. В крайнем случае, можно и модель зафиксировать нужным образом, но это уже узкие случаи и сфера компетенции органов охраны правопорядка. Узкий скотч требуется для заклейки ненужных синхроконтактов, когда хочется заставить электронику думать по-своему, а не так, как ей взбредет это в голову, точно так же можно из ненастоящего «холодного башмака» сделать настоящий, просто заклеив металлические части. Приобретается везде.

The reason for this is simple, fluorescent lights flicker. Too fast for your eyes to see, but depending on your shutter speed, your camera may be able to pick up the fluctuations. If the light uses a magnetic ballast, it will flicker 'off' 100-120 times a second (2 times for every cycle of the 50-60Hz line power). At high enough shutter speeds, one frame might be taken while the light output is at its peak, and another frame taken while the light is at its lowest resulting in significant exposure differences. At slower shutter speeds, the fluctuations end up being integrated together so you won't notice a difference between frames.

Once again, the equipment to be used is of utmost importance. Since you’ll be shooting really tiny creatures, you should ideally be using a dedicated macro lens. However, if you don’t have a dedicated macro, you can use what is known as the poor-man’s-macro lens. This isn’t a cheap quality sad lens, but basically a reversed lens that acts like a macro. A 50mm prime with a reversal ring should do the trick. You can add closeup filters and teleconverters if you want to increase your working distance, but know that every added piece of glass decreases the quality.

Use a snoot - In these shots I used a snooted strobe to create highlights without casting light on the background. A snoot is any conical shaped tunnel to confine the light beam for a narrow point of focus. It doesn’t have to be fancy. I use the velcro pocket separators from my camera bag. I know photographers who use cardboard cereal boxes to make DIY snoots.
